The owl is one of the most important symbols of the city and it is associated to intelligence.It is also the symbol of the Universidad de Humacao. There is a huge sculpture of an owl located at the main access of the town.Our city is a region of the Departamento de Educacion of the Gobierno de Puerto Rico. The city school district counts with approximately 32 different schools. There is also a precinct of the Universidad de Puerto Rico in Humacao which offers a variety of degrees and in the last year they inaugurated an articulated engineering program . This precinct's focus in sciences degrees is to supply the demand of professionals that help the island's economy plan to long terms in biotechnology. Also, there are several private schools of different levels, technical colleges and academies that offers minor degrees. Our city serves as academic center for the region cities demand.
